Population-Based Expanded Genetic Carrier Screening in New Brunswick

Population-based expanded genetic carrier screening pilot study in NB aims to recruit 60 volunteering, consenting and qualifying participants to better understand the genetic identity of New Brunswick’s diverse population.

We are currently in the initial phase of recruitment, at the moment we are only looking for participant originating from Acadian peninsula.

Why Acadian peninsula? It is due to the fact that the community is predominantly people of Acadian descent and it has a strong local patrimony key to the Acadian history of the region.

To be able to participate you must meet the following criteria:

  • 19 or older
  • No ongoing pregnancy in a couple
  • Have at least one grandparent who is native of the Acadian Peninsula
  • Able to provide written informed consent
  • Valid NB Medicare number

If you are interested, we will give you more information about the project and then you decide whether or not you would like to consent to participate.
