New facilities at Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC officially opened

Moncton, Thursday, December 17, 2020 – The official opening of the new facilities of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC took place today via streaming video on the Network’s website and Facebook page.

The CEO of the Network, Dr. France Desrosiers, was very pleased with this announcement and the successful conclusion of this long-term effort. “The project extended over 17 years, from its planning in 2007 to its entry into service last June,” she stated. “Its completion was made possible by the incredible efforts of everyone involved. I firmly believe in results achieved through teamwork, and this initiative is certainly no exception in this regard. Congratulations to everyone who dreamed of this development and who, today, is taking advantage of the benefits that these new facilities offer to improve health care delivery to the public,” she continued.

Bringing this expansion to fruition required an investment of over $100 million.

More specifically, the new space includes 10 operating rooms, a recovery room, a day surgery and short surgical stay centre, medical and surgical intensive care, the sterilization department, the physiotherapy and occupational therapy sectors and a future receiving area. “We went from an area of 32,380 square feet (3,008 m2) to 55,570 square feet (5,162.6 m2). This additional area has allowed us to add modern and spacious facilities and to considerably increase the capacity of our departments,” Dr. Desrosiers explained.

"We can now turn the page on this amazing project and continue working to strengthen the health care system as a whole, as laid out in our 2020–2023 Strategic Plan,” she concluded.
