Board Policy CA-241: Occupational Health and Safety

Effective date: 2022-06-21

Purpose

  1. Provide a safe and healthy work environment for all health care workers of Vitalité Health Network and promote and support a positive quality of life at work.
  2. Prevent violence in the workplace.
  3. Set up and maintain a health and safety program for our health care workers, contractors and any other government subsidiaries working in our facilities.
  4. Prevent occupational illnesses.

Policy

General provisions

The Board of Directors (the “Board”) of Vitalité Health Network (the “Network”) must ensure that all mechanisms protecting occupational health and safety are implemented and in compliance with New Brunswick’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Implementation and follow-up

The Board receives and analyzes monitoring reports submitted periodically by the senior management team. The Board ensures that the Network’s statutory responsibilities and reporting requirements are met.

The Board assigns the President and CEO the responsibility for developing and implementing all strategies and policies and procedures designed to ensure that principles and practices protecting the health and safety of health care workers, contractors and any other government subsidiary present within the Network’s facilities are integrated into all aspects of the Network’s philosophy, culture and operational planning.

Definitions:

  • Health care worker:

    Worker providing direct or indirect health care and services to patients or providing support services in a health care setting. The health care worker category also includes physicians.

  • Contractor:

    Any company or its representative working in the place of employment and/or facilities.

  • Government subsidiary:

    Any agency or Crown corporation under Parts I, II, III, and IV.
