Therapy dog introduced at Campbellton Regional Hospital

Campbellton, April 12, 2017 – A new animal therapy program has been under way at the Campbellton Regional Hospital for the past few weeks.

Dolorès Bérubé, accompanied by Kooza, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, has seen her first patients at the hospital. Both have received training from the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program. Together, their job is to bring happiness, joy, and comfort to people who are alone, sick, or simply in need of a friendly visit.

Joël Gagnon, Coordinator of Volunteer Services and Spiritual Care, indicated that he was “very pleased to be able to offer patients this new service” and was “confident that Kooza will bring much physical and psychological support to everyone he comes in contact with.”

The program is being delivered under Vitalité Health Network’s “Animals Within Facilities” Regional Policy and with the support of the Campbellton Regional Hospital’s interdisciplinary team of health professionals.
