Temporary interruption of pediatric and obstetric services at the Edmundston Regional Hospital

Edmundston, Wednesday, August 10, 2022 – Vitalité Health Network announces that pediatric and obstetric services at the Edmundston Regional Hospital will be temporarily suspended due to a shortage of pediatricians in the facility.

Temporary suspension: Thursday, August 11, 8 a.m., to Friday, August 19, 8 a.m.

Pediatric services
Individuals requiring pediatric services must go to the Emergency at Edmundston Regional Hospital. Individuals will be treated on a case-by-case basis and could be directed to another Network facility or one of the Network’s partners if a pediatric consultation proves necessary. To guarantee service delivery, the Network has established a transfer corridor with Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton for patients arriving by ambulance.

Obstetric services
Pregnant women must go to Edmundston Regional Hospital for an assessment to determine whether a transfer to another hospital is necessary for delivery. However, obstetric services leading up to delivery and after delivery will be maintained.

The Network will contact pregnant women affected by this situation directly, but those who wish to obtain further information can call 506-739-2746.

The Network apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this situation.
