The laboratory at the Dr Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre played a key role throughout the pandemic.

This national distinction aims to highlight professionals who have shown outstanding commitment to French-language health development in their community.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the microbiology lab team led the screening efforts for the entire province.

With the support of the Network’s other laboratories, the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre laboratory in Moncton quickly built a reputation for the efficiency and quality of its services.  It managed to provide an exemplary response time despite unprecedented volume.

Several mass screenings were also performed by the laboratories in Campbellton, Dalhousie and Edmundston.

“As a result of this high level of performance, the medical staff and public were kept informed of the presence of the virus, which helped reduce the number of fatalities and people infected with the virus,” said Yves Goudreau, Acting Vice-Present of Logistics and Patient Flow.

The team also set itself apart by developing several tests that made it easier to detect certain variants of COVID-19.

“I would like to thank our laboratory professionals for their tremendous work to protect people’s health. Their expertise and dedication were remarkable during this challenging time for everyone,” said Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO of Vitalité Health Network.

“They fully deserve this great recognition.”
