Campbellton Regional Hospital: Intensive Care Unit reopens as planned

Campbellton, Thursday, September 9, 2021 – Vitalité Health Network confirms that the Intensive Care Unit of the Campbellton Regional Hospital will reopen on September 9, 2021, as planned.  It was necessary to temporarily close this six-bed unit on August 26 in order to redeploy staff to the Emergency Department and maintain that essential service for the people of the region.

The Network reports that the measures taken in recent weeks are starting to bear fruit.  “The team of the hospital’s Emergency Department is stabilizing,” explained Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO. “The situation remains challenging and the facility is still short of nurses but things are moving in the right direction, and that is encouraging.”

The Network wishes to thank employees for their valuable collaboration. “In the past few weeks, a number of employees have had to leave their usual work setting to assist elsewhere in the hospital.  They stepped out of their comfort zone to ensure that the people of the region received essential care. I sincerely thank them for their professionalism and exceptional dedication,” Dr. Desrosiers said.

The Network also confirms that its plan announced in August for the facility’s obstetrics-gynecology sector is in the process of being rolled out. The 12 beds in question have been relocated to the Medical Unit, which leaves the hospital’s inpatient capacity unchanged.  “With these adjustments, the facility will be able to continue providing the obstetrics-gynecology clientele with quality care,” Dr. Desrosiers stated.

The Network also thanks the public for their understanding during these periods of adjustment.
