Temporary closure of the Campbellton Regional Hospital Emergency Department still in effect

Campbellton, Thursday, May 28, 2020 – Vitalité Health Network informs the public that the closure of the Emergency Department and cancellation of all non-urgent or elective health care services announced yesterday at the Campbellton Regional Hospital will continue until early next week.  This difficult decision is necessary due to the high risk of transmission of COVID-19 as a result of a health care worker of the facility having been in contact with several people, including about fifty employees.

“For the moment, a lot of our resources are dedicated to screening our employees who are the most at risk so that the facility can safely resume its normal activities as quickly as possible,” stated Gilles Lanteigne, President and CEO of the Network. “We are quite aware of the concerns and of the inconvenience resulting from such measures, but we would like to reiterate that everything is being done to resolve the situation.”

Severe symptoms – call 911

The Network reminds people of Restigouche that they should not hesitate to call 911 if they have severe symptoms or if they are in a situation that requires medical help without delay.  They will be taken by ambulance to the nearest Emergency Department.

Mild symptoms – family doctor or nurse practitioner

Patients with mild symptoms or who are not feeling well can get a consultation by phone or in person, in a manner that is safe and respects physical distancing guidelines, with their family doctor or nurse practitioner.

Visits are prohibited

Visits are prohibited at the Campbellton Regional Hospital, except for patients nearing end of life, Pediatrics, Intensive Care and Obstetrics, where only one designated visitor is allowed per patient.  In accordance with Public Health guidelines, the Network recommends that people of Restigouche refrain from going to other hospitals to visit patients.

The Network asks the public to strictly follow the isolation, physical distancing, handwashing and mask usage measures to prevent a potential second wave of COVID-19.
