New COVID-19 testing guidelines

Vitalité Health Network – Friday, March 24, 2023 – Vitalité Health Network is revising its COVID-19 testing procedure.

As of April 1, 2023, nucleic acid-based testing (PCR) will only be available with a prescription from a health care provider.

The provincial online registration system, which allowed certain eligible groups to apply for self-serve COVID-19 PCR testing, will no longer be available.

Those without access to a primary care provider can also be referred by consulting with a physician through an after-hours or walk-in clinic, through a virtual appointment with eVisitNB or by contacting Telecare 811.

The Network will contact the patient to schedule an appointment within 24 hours (Monday through Friday during regular hours).

Patients will continue to be able to access their COVID-19 PCR test results through their MyHealthNB account.

These changes are being made as Public Health is re-evaluating its COVID-19 testing strategy.
“This new approach will improve the capacity and efficiency of our outpatient clinics,” stated Stéphane Legacy, Senior Vice-President of Corporate Services.

“I would like to extend my warmest thanks to the staff involved in our testing operations since the beginning of the pandemic. Our teams worked hard and showed remarkable adaptability and resilience. I would also like to recognize the retired employees who helped us. They will finally be able to enjoy some well-deserved rest,” added Mr. Legacy.

The Network will continue to distribute COVID-19 rapid-test kits in all its pickup sites. Members of the public can obtain rapid-test kits by booking an appointment online and are encouraged to report any positive result by following these instructions.
