Water damage at the Edmundston Regional Hospital

Edmundston, August 12, 2014 – Regular activities in the Emergency Department at the Edmundston Regional Hospital will be affected for the upcoming weeks. This situation is in relation to repair work that started on account of a water leak that occurred in the late evening of Wednesday August 6th.

“A water leak caused by a malfunctioning valve in a bathroom in the Emergency Department’s waiting room resulted in water damage at the Emergency Department, Admission Services, Medical Archives, Accounts Payable and the doctors' lounge”, stated Mrs. Gisèle Beaulieu, Chief operating Officer for the Northwest Zone. “The situation did not have any negative consequences for our patients but we must proceed with repair work to get everything back in order”.

A thorough inspection of the units uncovered damage to the drywall. The hospital staff, however, managed to protect all patient files and the equipment in place.

“The Emergency Department will be prioritized and we estimate these specific repairs to be completed by mid-September. In the meantime, services will be maintained by temporarily transferring the observation room within the Obstetrics Department”, continued Mrs. Beaulieu

For non-urgent medical situations, members of the public are asked to visit the walk-in clinics located at 60 Bateman Avenue in Edmundston, 118 Principale Street in Saint-Jacques or to consult with their family physicians.

The management of the Edmundston Regional Hospital apologizes for any inconvenience.
