Vitalité Health Network asks public to reduce use of Emergency departments

Bathurst, December 23, 2021 – The Network is asking the public to limit visits, except in emergency situations, to the Emergency departments at Campbellton Regional Hospital, Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Joseph de Saint-Quentin and Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital. The situation is temporary and related to a shortage of medical staff.

Campbellton Regional Hospital
• December 23 to January 6, from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. (ends: January 6, 8:00 a.m.).

Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Joseph de Saint-Quentin
• December 24 and 25, 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. (ends: December 26, 8:00 a.m.).

Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital
• December 25 to January 3, from 8 :00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. (ends: January 3, 8:00 a.m.).

The Network is seeking the public’s cooperation to keep the Emergency departments open and delivering safe, quality care. The Emergency departments in these facilities remain open for people who need urgent care.

The Network’s medical adminstration emphasizes that the Emergency departments of these hospitals are open for people whose life is in immediate danger. Those who simply wish to see a doctor must use other available resources.

People whose health condition is not critical can book an appointment to see their family doctor or nurse practitioner, consult their community pharmacist, go to a walk-in clinic or simply call the Tele-Care service (811).

All those who still choose go to an Emergency department for non-urgent reasons must be prepared to be patient and expect to wait longer than usual.
The Network thanks the public for their kind cooperation during this difficult period.
