Update: Temporary interruption of pediatric hospitalization services at the Chaleur Regional Hospital

UPDATE: Bathurst, Tuesday, August 9, 2022 – The temporary suspension of pediatric hospitalization services at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, which was scheduled to end on Wednesday, August 10, has been extended until August 15 at 8 a.m. This suspension is due to a shortage of nursing staff at the facility and will not affect obstetrical services.

Vitalité Health Network prioritizes access to safe and optimal health care for the entire population.  The shortage of nursing resources is currently exacerbated by the summer period, the pandemic and staff burnout.

Service interruptions are always a last resort. We are actively seeking solutions with the people on site to boost the resilience of our teams during these difficult periods.

People who require pediatric care at that hospital must present to the Emergency Department of the Chaleur Regional Hospital where situations will be treated on a case-by-case basis with the possibility of being redirected to another facility of the Network.

The Network apologizes for the inconveniences caused by this situation.
