Temporary interruption of pediatric services at the Edmundston Regional Hospital

Bathurst, Friday, September 23, 2022 – Vitalité Health Network is announcing that the pediatric services provided at the Edmundston Regional Hospital will temporarily be suspended due to a shortage of nursing staff in the facility, but a pediatrician on call is still available. This interruption will not affect obstetrical service.

Temporary interruption: from Friday, September 23, until further notice.

Vitalité Health Network prioritizes access to safe and optimal health care for the entire population.  The shortage of nursing resources is currently exacerbated by the pandemic and staff burnout.

Service interruptions are always a last resort. We are actively seeking solutions with the people on site to boost the resilience of our teams during these difficult periods.

People who require pediatric care at that hospital must present to the Emergency Department of the Edmundston Regional Hospital where situations will be treated on a case-by-case basis with the possibility of being redirected to another facility.

The Network apologizes for the inconveniences caused by this situation.
