Temporary interruption of pediatric services at the Chaleur Regional Hospital

Bathurst, Wednesday, October 5, 2022 – Vitalité Health Network is announcing that the pediatric services provided at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst will temporarily be suspended due to a shortage of nursing staff in the facility. This interruption will not affect obstetrical service (labor and delivery).  A pediatrician is still available, on call.

Temporary interruption:
from Wednesday, October 5, until further notice.

Vitalité Health Network prioritizes access to safe and optimal health care for the entire population.  The shortage of nursing resources is currently exacerbated by the pandemic and staff burnout.

People who require pediatric care at that hospital must present to the Emergency Department of the Chaleur Regional Hospital where situations will be treated on a case-by-case basis with the possibility of being redirected to another facility.

Pediatric services are still temporarily suspended at the Edmundston Regional Hospital as well. Service interruptions are always a last resort. We are actively seeking solutions with the people on site to boost the resilience of our teams during this difficult period.

The Network apologizes for the inconveniences caused by this situation.
