Security and wearing of N95 masks at the Campbellton Regional Hospital: Dr. MacMillan retracts her statements

Campbellton, Friday, June 17, 2020 – Dr. Vona MacMillan wishes to retract her public statements made yesterday on Radio-Canada regarding the wearing of the N95 mask and security measures at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.  "I recognize that what I said yesterday was wrong.  That is why I would like to withdraw my statements and correct the facts. »

Dr. MacMillan acknowledges that wearing the N95 mask on a continuous basis when caring for patients with COVID-19 is neither necessary nor recommended.  As specified by the Public Health Agency of Canada standards, the N95 mask is required for aerosol-generating medical procedures (AGMP) and this is what is being applied at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.

"I apologize to Vitalité Health Network, my physician colleagues and the public if my comments yesterday caused concern.  I can assure you that all measures are being taken to ensure a safe work environment for the employees and patients of the Campbellton Regional Hospital. »

She has also committed to follow Vitalité Health Network’s policy and practice on infection prevention and control.
