New Equipment to fight cancer at Chaleur Regional Hospital thanks to Proceeds from the Roses Radiothon

Bathurst, June 11, 2014 – The Roses Radiothon team presented a $100,000-cheque today to the Chaleur Regional Hospital to help purchase important equipment for the Surgical suite as well as for the Breast Health Clinic. This money was collected through various fundraising activities held in 2014 within the scope of the 8th Annual “Roses Radiothon – In our region, for our region!” event.

“We are very grateful to the members of the Roses Radiothon Committee and the many volunteers for their hard work and dedication. We are equally touched by the generosity of people in the Chaleur region, Acadian Peninsula, and surrounding areas.  As a result of their generosity, we acquired new pieces of essential equipment for the Chaleur Regional Hospital. The Radiothon allows us year after year to update our equipment and improve services provided to our region’s residents,” said Stéphane Legacy, Chief of Operations for the Acadie-Bathurst Zone.

More specifically, the money was used to help the Chaleur Regional Hospital purchase two bipolar resectoscope units for the Surgical Suite, primarily used by gynecologists to remove polyps and fibromas. Further, patients at the Breast Health Clinic will benefit from the campaign’s efforts with the provision of post-operative bras and breast prostheses, this for the next five years.

“We have excellent physicians and specialists, but they need state-of-the-art equipment in order to generate precise diagnostic results and rapidly conduct the appropriate treatment to patients. As witnessed today, we now have new equipment for the Surgical suite and the Breast Health Clinic that will allow for improved services to patients. This is thanks to the community’s efforts and we are very thankful”, said Thérèse Haché, Ambassador of the 2014 Roses Radiothon.

Since 2007, the Roses Radiothon has raised the whopping sum of $ 1,336,830 to improve cancer treatment services at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.

The cheque presentation and official unveiling took place today at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in the presence of several guests and dignitaries.
