Municipality of Memramcook welcomes Vitalité Health Network to talk about health

Vitalité Health Network, Thursday, February 2, 2023 – The Municipality of Memramcook welcomed representatives of Vitalité Health Network on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 as part of a series of meetings in communities to discuss health needs.

Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO of Vitalité Health Network, reiterated the importance of dialogue, co-design and mobilizing communities in the effort to improve health care and services.  “Vitalité Health Network regularly assesses communities’ health needs. Above and beyond this assessment step, however, we want to support communities in implementing initiatives to meet the needs that are identified. This meeting opened the door to fruitful collaboration between the Municipality of Memramcook and Vitalité Health Network,” Dr. Desrosiers explained.

The Mayor of Memramcook, Maxime O. Bourgeois, was very pleased with the Network’s openness to using a customized approach to improve the accessibility and delivery of health care and services in his region. “This type of meeting is a first for Memramcook and we are enthusiastic about this initiative and Vitalité Health Network’s interest in engaging municipalities and other partners in the search for solutions to improve the services in our communities,” Mayor Bourgeois added. 

During the meeting, the Council members shared their observations on the health needs in their region, especially those related to prevention. They also highlighted initiatives that have been proving successful in Memramcook, including the Memramcook Wellness Committee and the social pediatric services being directed by Dr. Élaine Deschênes in collaboration with the community. They also mentioned the services being provided by the physicians working in the community and by the local pharmacy team.

Brigitte Sonier Ferguson, Senior Vice-President, Performance, University Mission and Strategy, presented the learning community approach, which allows communities to engage in a formal movement to improve the health of their population. She also mentioned that Memramcook will be among the communities whose needs will be assessed during the next round of assessments, to be conducted within the next few months.

The Network was represented at the meeting by Dr. Desrosiers, Gérald Richard, Trustee, Patrick Parent, Assistant CEO, Strategic Execution and Senior Vice-President, Client Programs and Professional Services, Brigitte Sonier Ferguson, Senior Vice-President, Performance, University Mission and Strategy, Ghislaine Arsenault, Vice President, Communications and Engagement, and Charline Morrison, Corporate Director, Engagement.

The Municipality of Memramcook was represented by Mayor Maxime O. Bourgeois and the members of the Municipal Council, namely Mariane Cullen, Marc Boudreau, Brian Cormier, Carole Duguay, Normand Dupuis and Yanic Vautour. Pierre Roy, Principal of the école Abbey Landry, and Mario Chiasson, Director of Research, Innovation and Change with the District scolaire francophone Sud, were also in attendance.
