Investment of one million dollars at the Lamèque Hospital and Community Health Centre

Lamèque, Friday, November 22, 2019 – Vitalité Health Network and the Fondation de l'Hôpital de Lamèque Inc. will invest one million dollars at the Lamèque Hospital and Community Health Centre (CHC) to expand the offices of the facility’s Family Medicine Unit (FMU). The announcement was made this morning with several guests and dignitaries in attendance.

“The FMU expansion project and increased use of high-end technology will enable the Lamèque Hospital and CHC to increase the quality of the services it provides to the population and will position the facility as a leader in terms of health care services in the community,” explained Shelley Robichaud, Primary Health Care Director.

Gilles Lanteigne, President and CEO of the Network, also expressed his support for the project. “Today’s announcement clearly illustrates the importance for Vitalité Health Network of community facilities and proximity access to primary health care for the population, as stipulated in our 2017–2020 Strategic Plan,” he indicated.

"I am pleased to be here this morning to confirm the commitment of The Lamèque Hospital Foundation to this great project for our school. Thank you to the Vitalité Health Network and the community for believing in the future of our hospital because, as our slogan in the Radiothon of Roses says so well ... health is our home first! ", said the President of Fondation de l’Hôpital de Lamèque inc, Mr. Yoland Chiasson.

More specifically, expanding the FMU will allow for:

  • improved access to primary health care for the population of the region;
  • improved patient and staff comfort and greater confidentiality;
  • the Lamèque Hospital and CHC to reinforce its primary health care mandate.

The FMU of the Lamèque Hospital and CHC relies on five physicians, three nurse practitioners and on nursing and administrative support staff to provide its services. The drawings and specifications of the projet should be completed in the fall of 2020 and the renovation work could begin in early 2021.
