COVID-19: Visits cancelled in all Vitalité Health Network hospitals

Bathurst, Thursday, October 7, 2021 – Vitalité Health Network informs the public that visits will be temporarily cancelled in all its hospitals starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021.  Visits had already been cancelled in the three hospitals of the Northwest Zone as of October 1 and at the Restigouche Hospital Centre as of October 4, 2021.

“With the number of COVID-19 cases continually increasing, the Network deems it more prudent to temporarily cancel visits in all our hospitals until further notice,” stated Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO of the Network. “This will reduce the traffic in our facilities and better the manage the risk of the virus spreading,” she explained.

Some exceptions are in place, including for patients who are eligible for a designated support person (DSP).   Designated support persons must, however, continue following the safety measures in place, namely:

  • Reporting to the entrance control point;
  • Being asymptomatic:
  • Doing hand hygiene, wearing a mask, and only going to their patient’s room.

Designated support persons are allowed for hospitalized patients in the following areas: palliative care (end of life), pediatrics/child psychiatry, obstetrics (labour and delivery), intensive care and patients receiving medical assistance in dying. For more details.
