COVID-19 outbreak on Nephrology Unit of Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC

Moncton, Wednesday, December 15, 2021 – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on the Nephrology Unit (4F) of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre (UHC) after two patients on the unit and a health care worker were diagnosed with COVID-19. An exposure notice had already gone into effect on the unit on December 7 after a first positive case was found.

Vitalité Health Network has instituted full infection prevention and control precautions such as increased cleaning as well as regular screening and contact tracing to protect the health of patients and staff.

For the moment, the outbreak is not directly impacting the care and services being delivered by the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC. The public will be informed in the eventuality that any services are temporarily reduced or suspended.

The Network reminds the public that, until further notice, designated support persons are not authorized to visit patients on the Nephrology Unit. On the facility’s other units, however, the Network’s existing restrictions on visits remain in effect, with exceptions applying to patients entitled to a have designated support person.

These temporary measures are in place to protect the health and safety of our patients, health care workers and community.

We understand that families and friends find it difficult to be separated from their loved ones during this time. We encourage people to use technology to stay in touch with our patients.
