Clinic by appointment at the St. Joseph Community Health Centre closing temporarily

Dalhousie, Thursday, January 27, 2022 – Vitalité Health Network is announcing the temporary closure of the clinic by appointment at the St. Joseph Community Health Centre in Dalhousie due to a shortage of staff.

The clinic will be closed for one month as of January 31, 2022. It is usually open Monday through Friday and provides services by appointment with a nurse practitioner or doctor.

Because of the shortage of staff, the clinic no longer has the resources necessary to provide ongoing services. “Given the circumstances, we unfortunately have no other choice than to close the clinic temporarily,” stated Jacques Duclos, Vice-President of Community Services and Mental Health. “We are pursuing our recruitment efforts to be able to provide access to primary health care again,” he added.

The St. Joseph Community Health Centre continues to play an important role in the delivery of primary care in the Restigouche area, and the other services it provides are not affected. Health professionals at the collaborative practice (family doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers) will continue to see their patients. The Network remains at the red level and services are reduced in all facilities to ensure that essential services (Emergency departments, Intensive Care units and COVID-19 units) can be provided.

Alternatives exist for people who need essential primary health care services:

  • See your family doctor / nurse practitioner;
  • See your community pharmacist;
  • See a doctor at a walk-in clinic;
  • Call Tele-Care 811 to have your needs assessed;
  • Visit eVisitNB to see a nurse practitioner or doctor online.

People who need urgent care must not hesitate to call 911 or to visit the Emergency Department at the nearest hospital.

The Network thanks the public for their collaboration.
