50 candles for Chaleur Regional Hospital

Bathurst, October 6, 2022 – It’s a jubilee year for Chaleur Regional Hospital, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. A celebration that brought together health professionals and members of the staff and the community was held on Thursday, October 6, in Bathurst, to mark this historic anniversary.

“Chaleur Regional Hospital has been a stronghold in the region for 50 years. It is important to recognize that the strength and richness of this facility is built on the quality of care provided to patients through the expertise and dedication of health professionals,” said Dr. France Desrosiers, President and CEO of Vitalité Health Network, who was present at the event.

Dr. Desrosiers took the opportunity to commend the invaluable contribution tom the community of all these people. She also recalled the importance of taking a look back at how far we’ve come and of honouring this cause for great celebration.

Other activities have also been held over the past few days to thank the health care workers, physicians and volunteers of Chaleur Regional Hospital.

“As a staff member for 21 years, I am delighted by these celebrations that bring a breath of fresh air and not only nourish the feeling of pride and belonging of the employees, but also of the members of the community towards their regional hospital,” said Anne-Marie Lavigne, member of the organizing committee for the hospital’s 50th anniversary celebrations and Hospital Activity Director for the facility.

The facility, which officially opened its doors on February 9, 1972, had 204 beds, 17 physicians and 525 health care workers at the time. It now has 215 beds, 108 physicians and 1,405 health care workers.

The expansion and renovation work that has been underway since 2015 is evidence that this facility is dedicated to growing and improving access to health care in the Chaleur region.

Many projects have been completed at Chaleur Regional Hospital since the late 1990s to modernize certain sectors, including the emergency department, the surgical suite, central processing and the intensive care unit.
