Chaleur Regional Hospital Obstetrical Unit expected to reopen its labour and delivery service in January

Bathurst, Friday, November 30, 2018 –  The Obstetrical Unit of the Chaleur Regional Hospital is expected to reopen its labour and delivery service on January 7, 2019. The decision was made following a meeting held yesterday between the President and Chief Executive Officer of Vitalité Health Network, Gilles Lanteigne, New Brunswick's Minister of Health and MLAs Brian Kenny and Denis Landry.

According to Mr. Lanteigne, the meeting went very well, and the Department of Health proved responsive during the discussion. “I showed the Minister our action plan as well as all the initiatives undertaken by the Network’s administration and caregivers to restore services as quickly as possible. We both agreed on an official reopening on January 7, 2019, unless, of course, extraordinary events occur. However, we are very confident that this reopening date will be kept,” stated the Network’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

The labour and delivery service of the Chaleur Regional Hospital Obstetrical Unit has been closed since October 30, 2018 due to a shortage of nursing staff. In the meantime, service corridors with the Campbellton and Miramichi regional hospitals have been established.
