Addiction services in Campbellton: New provincial service now available to patients

Campbellton, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 – Addiction Services in Campbellton today presented a new way of delivering services to patients.  The new delivery model being introduced will now include care related to mental health problems (dubbed concomitant disorders) in addition to treatment for alcohol, drug and gambling addictions. The announcement was made with a number of dignitaries in attendance.

In recent months, an implementation team primarily made up of clinicians, managers, administrators, First Nations’ members and family members worked to create a program based on best practices and efficient services in the treatment of concomitant disorders. Gino Mallais, Manager of Addiction Services in Campbellton, explained that the new approach allows highly personalized services to be delivered. “We offer patients residential treatment (12 beds) that may last from 30 to 90 days, depending on individual needs. The services are designed for people aged 19 and over experiencing concomitant problems (mental health) related to substance abuse and problem gambling. Thanks to our teams providing care 24/7, we are better able to meet these people’s needs,” he mentioned. “The services are bilingual, and the interventions focus on recovery and factor in the gender, traumas and culture of each patient. The approach is holistic and designed to meet people’s physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.”

Gilles Lanteigne, President and CEO of Vitalité Health Network, was pleased with this announcement.  “I am confident that this service will help people who are dealing with addiction issues to develop skills and tools that will make them more resilient and thereby give them a better quality of life,” he explained.  “Once again, we are contributing to improving people’s health, as set out in our 2017–2020 Strategic Plan,” he added.

The project’s leaders will announce a contest shortly to find a bilingual name for the new program that will convey recovery and be respectful of the First Nations and the communities of the Restigouche.
